Welcome to Veterinary Clinical Decision Making

The aim of this website is to bring together resources, guidance and information for veterinary / vet nursing students, professionals and animal owners to support them when making decisions about clinical treatment.

The website was started back in 2021 and in light of recent discussions around contextualised care, we have decided to revive things, and bring together new resources.

There is a lot to discuss, so if you would like to work with us, please get in touch!

Dr Mary Fraser
BVMS MRes PhD PGCHE FHEA CBiol FRSB FRCVS

Mary has had a varied career starting out in mixed practice, then focussing on veterinary dermatology, veterinary nursing, medical education, animal welfare, supporting owners and clinical decision making and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2017 for Meritorious Contributions to Practice.

Working both as a clinician and academic Mary has a MRes in Clinical Veterinary Research, focussing on Clinical Decision Making, which is currently her main area of interest - hence this website!

Mary has spent many years working with human nursing and medical professionals and would like to see human and veterinary professionals working together more to advance care of people and animals.

There are many similarities between human and veterinary decision making and we can all learn from each other.

As an educator, Mary has developed the 'Could, Would, Should' approach to veterinary decision making to support veterinary students and new graduates to make better clinical decisions.
